Play on Patterns Remodel—Independence, MN

Written by Jeffrey Court | August 26, 2016

Congratulations to Andrea Dixon, Co-Owner, Interior Designer, and Kitchen & Bath Designer at Fiddlehead Design Group in Minneapolis, MinnesotaBest of the Best competition finalist.

When Andrea Dixon and the team at Fiddlehead Design Group were introduced to the bare studs, concrete floors, and completely open basement of this arts & crafts style home located in Independence, Minnesota, there was little to be desired. The homeowner’s need for a multipurpose room to suit their active family lifestyle inspired an entire basement remodel with functional necessities including a workout room, game room, theater area, kitchen, and a guest bathroom—essentially, the homeowners sought a family gathering place.

Andrea and her team used the neutral and warm, grey tones of Chapter 3—Stream Stone to accomplish a modern design in order to differentiate from the arts & crafts vibe of the rest of the house. Describing the tile selection process of the basement bathroom, Andrea noted, “We presented everything to our clients as a palette. We pulled all of the finishes together and presented it to them. The clients liked everything we had pulled right away, so they said, ‘Yep, let’s do it!’”

The 6-month design process was followed by 12-weeks of constructing the basement. The bathroom’s multiple layers include a shower area consisting of 4 different Jeffrey Court selections including Chapter 3—Stream Stone’s Sleek Pattern A, Modernique Pattern A4 x 12 Transitional Taupe field tile as well as Chapter 14—Duality's Midnight Marble. “Something that we really pride ourselves in here at Fiddlehead Design Group is layering patterns, which is something that we do including tile. It is something you will note by looking at the shower installation,” said Andrea. The end result of the remodel has been everything the homeowners wished for including a dream bathroom with a modern flare that flows with the rest of the basement. The play on patterns is a coordinated look that successfully pulls the basement’s design together and contributes an inviting atmosphere that is perfect for the homeowner’s active family lifestyle.
