Baum 1980’s Reno

Written by Jeffrey Court | October 16, 2017

Congratulations to Julie Baum, Owner of BaumHouse Design in Valley Park, Missouri—2017 Design Nationals competition finalist.

When Julie Baum of Baum Design House in Valley Park, Missouri walked into this 1980’s corner butterfly sink, step-down kitchen she knew she had her reno work cut out for her. A home set alongside a beautiful golf course was hidden from the views that surround it.

The original architecture remained untouched for over 30 years and this retired couple was ready for a Baum upgrade, to fit their whole family.

First order of business for Julie was to remove a dated brick wall and open up the kitchen space to include more windows, to enjoy the view no matter your seat. Then came the inspiration, pulled from Jeffrey Court’s own Spanish Cathedral tile that became a focal-point for the kitchen renovation.

“Once we saw the Spanish Cathedral tile, that was it. We never strayed from it,” said Julie Baum of her design inspiration.

The perfect match for the colored cabinetry and quartz countertops, the Spanish Cathedral tile adorned the top of a 42-inch chrome range oven. The kitchen, however wasn’t complete without a complimentary backsplash to cover the surrounding walls found in our Herringbone tile.

The once outdated gloomy kitchen, is now a large open, naturally lit masterpiece with views for days.

And that’s how you do a Baum renovation that will last a lifetime.
